Reading Is Fundamental

In 1977, Denver Public Schools in cooperation with the Denver Public Library entered into the Reading Is Fundamental Program (RIF).
RIF, is a national, nonprofit organization designed to motivate children to read by giving them the opportunity to choose and own inexpensive books. Between the years 1977 and 1980, 36,000 DPS students received RIF books. In 1981, Denver Public Schools began coordinating the RIF program without the assistance of the Denver Public Library.
